Roborock presented new robot vacuum cleaners with the Saros series at . It is led by the Roborock Saros Z70, the world’s first robot vacuum cleaner with an intelligent and robot arm, the OmniGrip, which picks up and puts away objects such as socks. and towels while cleaning.

The three Roborock models Saros Z70, Saros 10 and Saros 10R cross all door thresholds up to 4 cm high and, with a height of 7.98 cm, are intended to ensure cleanliness even under deep furniture.

The robotic arm picks up objects

However, only the Roborock Saros Z70 has the aforementioned OmniGrip robot arm, which is being mass-produced for the first time. The five-axis arm is integrated into the housing of the vacuum robot and unfolds automatically. It autonomously picks up objects such as socks, towels or sandals weighing up to a maximum of 300 grams and can work both horizontally and vertically. This means that it no longer has to go around such obstacles and miss the corresponding area on the floor, but can clean the area in the most optimal way possible, even if something remains behind it.

The OmniGrip is activated via the Roborock app. Users can specify which objects the arm can pick up and where they should be placed. Safety features such as a child lock and an emergency stop button are integrated. Thanks to integrated sensors, a camera integrated into the arm and an LED light, the arm detects the environment, position and weight of the objects.

Sensors for obstacle detection

The StarSight 2.0 autonomous system for navigation uses dual-light 3D ToF sensors and RGB cameras to enable mapping and obstacle detection. With a sampling rate 21 times higher than that of LDS systems, the robot can detect up to 108 obstacles such as cables or toys and handle them intelligently, according to Roborock. Users can also define and name up to 50 new obstacles in the app via OTA updates.

The “VertiBeam Side Obstacle Avoidance System”, meanwhile, aims to solve the problem of cleaning around cables by using a side laser to widen the field of vision and minimize collisions.

The suction power of the Roborock Saros Z70 is 22,000 Pa and the two rotating mops automatically lift up to 2.2 cm for smooth switching between cleaning and vacuuming. The Z70 cleaning station charges, empties and fills the robot vacuum cleaner and mop and offers functions such as mopping with hot water at 80°C.

Pet Snaps takes photos of your pet

The Roborock Saros Z70 also offers functions such as “Videocall & Cruise”, which can be used to initiate video calls and track your pet. As soon as the animal is detected, the robot deactivates the suction function. If desired, Pet Snaps automatically takes photos of the pet during cleaning, which the user can then download to their smartphone via the app.
