So that the AMD Ryzen 8000 Mobile “Hawk Point” that AMD will continue to offer in the future better adapts to the Ryzen AI 300 (Strix Point/Krackan Point) and Ryzen AI Max 300 (Strix Halo), the former series receives a new name: Ryzen 200. else changes.

Old wine in new bottles

Ryzen 200 is an old tech wine in new skins for the entry-level segment. According to AMD, the mobile portfolio will look something like this in the future:

Halo Series: AMD Ryzen AI Max 300 (Strix Halo)
maximum. 16 5 cores, 40 CU RDNA 3.5, 50 TOPPremium series: AMD Ryzen AI 9 300 (Strix Point)
maximum. 4/8 Zen 5/Zen 5c cores, 16 CU RDNA 3.5, 55 TOPSAdvanced-Series: AMD Ryzen AI 7/5 (Krackan Point)
maximum. 4/4 cores Zen 5/Zen 5c, 8 CU RDNA 3.5, 50 series TOPSEinstiegs: AMD Ryzen 200 (aka Hawk Point)
maximum. 8 Zen 4 cores, 12 CU RDNA 3, 16 HIGH

But it could have been worse, for example if the current Strix and Hawk Point platforms had all been based on Ryzen AI 300. This would have been reasonable, since many Hawk Point models also use a small NPU, but with a maximum of 16 TOPS. it is not approved by Microsoft for Copilot+ for example.

The table below contains all current APUs as well as older Hawk Point APUs with their new names in comparison.

Intel did the same earlier this year

Intel recently made a similar name change: below the Core Ultra 200, which relies on Lunar Lake or Arrow Lake, there are also Core 200 laptops that use the older Raptor Lake architecture. In this case they are all 200 series, the difference is whether “Ultra” is added or removed.
