5K Monitors: Samsung’s sharpest QD-OLED display delivers 220 ppi

The first QD-OLED monitors with 4K UHD on 27 inches and thus the highest pixel density of 160 ppi to date for this display type will soon be available. But Samsung has already demonstrated what happens next at CES 2025: a 5K display reaches 220 ppi.
5K monitors with QD-OLED to be expected
A next step for QD-OLED monitors is “5K” for Samsung Display. This probably means 5,120 × 2,880 pixels, which, given the displayed size of 27 inches, means 220 ppi when rounded up. This combination already exists in LCDs, such as the Asus ProArt PA27JCV, available for a few weeks.

First of all, the first QD-OLED monitors with 3840 × 2160 (4K) on 27 inches have 160 ppi. These are expected in 2025 in the form of numerous models from Samsung and its partners.

The Flat Panels HD site therefore suspects that Samsung’s 5K QD OLED monitor will probably not hit the market before 2026.
Popular YouTuber Vincent Teoh of HDTVTest, who posted a short video about it, also raves about the razor-sharp display. It talks about a gaming monitor, but at the same time asks in the description if the panel is new Apple A studio display could be used.
QD-OLED monitors also outside of gaming
With this in mind, Flat Panels HD reports that QD-OLED panels, which have so far only been used in gaming monitors, will also be used in the future in other areas such as “Media” and ” Desk “. The risk of burns is now much lower, which means that such areas of application can also be considered. A prime example is the Dell S3225QC, a 32-inch 4K monitor with QD-OLED and 120Hz, which is not explicitly aimed at gaming.
Asked by FlatpanelsHD, Samsung Display said it is confident its QD-OLED panels are now burn-in-resistant enough to be used for more general-purpose applications, including media and even office work.
This shift will begin in 2025 with non-gaming QD-OLED monitors from Dell and Samsung.
