Crashes in Assassin’s Creed and Co.: Windows 11 24H2 now also works with Ubisoft titles 71 comments
With some Ubisoft titles having compatibility issues with the major Windows 11 24H2 fall update, Microsoft has stopped the update process for the systems these games are installed on. Bug fixes are now available for all games.
On Friday, Microsoft announced that the issue had been resolved. Ubisoft previously provided patches for Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora in December. Bug fixes now tracked for Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, Origins and Valhalla.
Games may freeze or crash
If the 24H2 update has already been installed, Ubisoft titles may freeze when loading or while playing. Black screens would also be possible. With the patches, the games are running stable again, but Microsoft has reported performance issues that may occur with Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
After installing the patches, it may take up to 48 hours to activate a system for Windows 11 24H2. According to Microsoft, the update process can be speeded up by restarting.
Windows 11 24H2 distribution moves to next phase
In the meantime, Microsoft has allowed more and more systems to install Windows 11 24H2. As Windows Latest reports, the download now starts automatically on all compatible systems. If users are still using an older version of Windows 11, the update should start soon, provided there are no bugs blocking the process.
Other issues affect AutoHDR
Microsoft lists known errors in Windows 11 24H2 on an overview page. Although issues with Ubisoft titles are now officially resolved, games can still crash when AutoHDR is enabled. The current recommendation is to disable it.
Difficulties may also occur if you install Windows 11 24H2 in a version that contains security updates released between October 8 and November 12, 2024. Such installations may prevent the system from installing further security updates . This issue can be fixed by installing a Windows 11 24H2 build that already includes the December 2024 security updates.
