Civilization 7 is ranked by Harsch players and is still scheduled to appear this spring exclusively for Meta Quest 3 and 3S. The title will use the special technique of helmets and practically bring Civ 7 to the home living room table. Round strategy therefore becomes a virtual board game.

At the Civ World Summit on Saturday, publisher 2K Games with developer Firaxy announced the port of Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 for Quest 3 and 3. The port is developed by Playside Studios and is not a 1:1 port, but believes the game continues as a board game for mixed reality.

In a blog post, Meta goes into detail and describes how Civilization 7 practically puts the player in command. All game moves take place in the table and this can be placed freely in your own apartment. The player can watch a rocket start from above or up close. This is made possible by the MR skills from the 3S quest (test).

Civilization VII – VR leverages Civ’s classic, top-down view, putting you at the command table, a board game-style construct where the world is laid out before you and brought to life. You’ll be able to peer over the command table to strategize your moves or lean all the way to appreciate the finer details of your scouts, cities, armies and wonders.

But also outside the table another CIV guide can be encountered, the trailer and screenshots show Benjamin Franklin and Cleopatra, who appear next to the player. This means that diplomatic interactions and negotiations with US presidents and the Egyptian pharaoh are potentially being moved to their own four walls.

If you prefer not to bring politics into the house, you can also use a virtual environment that turns out to be a white marble museum. As Meta points out, multiplayer is still supported, other players are then displayed with their CIV leaders on the virtual commando. No information on compatibility with PC and Console versions is made, but it can be assumed that there will not be any.

A release is promised for “spring 2025”, none of the four parts will be more specific, but the VR version can already be packaged on the wishlist in the Meta Store. The developers also remain guilty of a price and Civilization VII currently costs at least 69.99 euros on Steam.
