IFIXIT: Galaxy S25 Ultra is easier to repair than predecessors 23 comments
IFIXit repair and spare parts professionals come to the conclusion from your current Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra (test) teardown that it is the simplest repairable Galaxy smartphone for years. The smartphone mainly receives plus points for components such as the battery and modular cameras.
The battery can be easily removed
Of all, IFIXit particularly emphasizes how Samsung gives the battery in the case of this generation: namely without adhesives, for which it needs special solvents or suitable tools to pull the battery from the smartphone. Instead, Samsung relies on “pull tabs”, that is, traction aids that can be placed in the battery position from four sides and can be easily resolved. After loosening these adhesive strips, the battery can be easily removed from the case.
At IFIXit it is assumed that the easier access to the battery is due to the right to repair it in the EU. According to amateurs, the battery can be exchanged by professionals and normal users.
The camera is modular
The Galaxy S25 Ultra also receives plus points for the modular camera. As a result, each of the four lenses can be replaced individually, so that the entire camera module does not have to be purchased in the event of a defect outside the warranty period. On the other hand, Ifixit criticizes the selfie camera, which is held in position with epoxy resin. IFIXit was able to remove the camera without any damage during its own testing, but the process is unnecessarily complicated.
No torque parts at Samsung
Samsung is also granted to do without the so-called “parts pair”, which does not use the manufacturer to link selected spare parts to a specific device using hardware and software verification. This facilitates the use of equivalent spare parts from third-party suppliers.
There is plenty of room for improvement
With 5 out of 10 points for repairability, however, there is plenty of room for Samsung. According to IFIXIT, the official repair instructions are dull, not intuitive and complicated. Official spare parts are also hard to come by and also “terribly so”. And although there is no adhesive for the battery itself, it is still necessary for every repair, since neither the screen nor the back with screws or clips are held in position.
