First test for 5090: New Quiet-Bios quietly makes Asus sounds

ASUS has provided a new BIOS for ROG ASTRAL (TEST) and ROG ASTRAL (test) for download, which replaces the previous alternative “Quiet” BIOS. Quieter operation must then be possible via a suitable fan curve. Techconseil carried out a first test.

Rog Astral with new quieter calm biases?

Asus’ new flagship GeForce design “Rog Astral” thrashes around in the back, which works harder than the other three bladder fans at the same speed step of approx. 1,200 rpm. The fourth fan only has a positive effect on the cooling capacity at extremely high speeds, most users will not use the graphics card.

Techtip has already reported in detail and even made an additional test to the new fourth fan:

What did ASUS fix?

ASUS is now trying to counter Asus with new silent bios variants for the four “available” Asus Rog Astrals. However, ASUS’ support pages don’t reveal any details. But the computer base has measured.

BIOS update for “Quiet Mode”, for a quieter ventilation curve

It remains at 600 instead of a standard TDP of 575 watts in quiet mode, Asus has simply reduced the speed of the four fans (controlled via two channels) and accepts higher temperatures – so it does what the computer base had already fallen to doing manually in case of doubt.

Installation takes place via an EXE file. There is also a version with the default qualification BIOS, so users can return to the starting state after the Flash process.

The new silent bio for Rog Astral in the test

The ASUS ROG GEFORCE RTX 5090 ASTRAL OC Edition was used for a first test, which had to face in the same test system and the same setting as two weeks ago, now with a new calm bias.

The graphics card now runs with 1200 rpm under load in Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition (600 watts TDP), previously it was almost 1700 rpm. The computer base has not yet measured the volume, but with the old BIOS the speed had to be reduced to 1500 rpm to reach the Fe level – at 1200 rpm the astral will now be quieter and even cooler. A volume value will be submitted on Thursday.

GPU and temperatures increase due to the new quiet biases, but the effects are small.

With the new Bios Quiet, the Asus Rog GeForce RTX 5090 Astral, provided bios-silence is enabled, is now “quieter Ex Works” and does not heat up than the Founders Edition. So as you can expect a custom design of dimensions weighing almost 3.0 kg. The computer base will also test whether this also applies to the ASUS ROG GEFORCE RTX 5080 ASTRAL.
