More than five years after the debut of Apple’s video streaming service, it is now also available for Android users. Publication is expected to occur worldwide, but may be subject to regional differences. Continued according to Apple media reports With this step also the goal of increasing the number of subscribers.
Another step towards Android
Apple Android is only hesitantly opening up and generally trying to keep customers within the confines of its own product ecosystem. It was already at the music streaming service started in 2015 Apple Music to watch. At TV + Apple Now it is even longer to abandon its negative attitude towards support for the Google operating system. With the service initially available on a number of smart TVs, Android users can now also stream original series and movies directly to their Apple devices. The North American Soccer League Major League MLS Season Pass is also part of the deal. The service can now be subscribed to via the Google Play Store and includes a free seven-day trial phase. After expiration, the subscription becomes a fee and costs 9.99 euros per month in Germany.
Apple emphasizes that the application was not simply adopted by iOS, but above all for Android from scratch. The aim is to offer users the “familiar and intuitive user interface” and enable the usual operation for them. In addition, essential functions such as “deeper view”, with which previously stopped content can be continued later on all connected devices, should be fully integrated. The well-known watchlist should not be missing either.
Increase the number of subscribers as motivation?
The current step is seen by experts as a long-overdue attempt to keep up with major streaming services such as Disney+ and Netflix. Although Apple TV+ has received 538 awards and been nominated for 2,553 other awards in the past, especially with high-quality productions, the company continues to release official subscriber figures. Industry experts therefore assume that service is still clearly behind the market leaders.
