Highest OLED Resolution: LG Begins Mass Production of 5K2K Shows 62 Comments

Until now, 4K UHD with 8 million pixels has been the highest resolution of OLED monitors. But soon there will be the first OLED monitors with 5,120 × 2,160 pixels aka “5k2k” aka wuhd, which means 11 million pixels. LG display now starts with mass production of the panel.
5,120 × 2,160 pixels is the highest resolution for OLED monitors, as models available with 4K UHD have 8.3 million pixels and models with DQHD have 7.4 million pixels. The LG’s WUHD panel measures an impressive 45 inches diagonally, so the pixel density with 123 ppi isn’t particularly high.

High illumination up to 1300 cd/m²
LG Display, as the daughter of South Korean electronics LG, also advertises with the “so-called highest brightness among all OLED monitors” with up to 1,300 cd/m². Without more detailed information, an absolute higher value (peak) for a very small area of the scene (APL 3%?) can be assumed. The manufacturer’s television panels have already reached up to 4,000 cd / m².
A “gaming-specific polarizer” is used against reflections in accordance with LG to achieve “perfect black tones” in a bright environment.
Dual mode alias dfr supported
With the technology designated by LG as dynamic frequency and resolution (DFR), which is called in other mode, can be switched between native resolution at 165 Hz refresh and Full HD with 330 Hz. If the gamer is important to the gamer, for example, in fast shooters, he can choose the 330 Hz at the expense of low resolution, while he receives full pixel splendor in 5k2k mode.
Premier monitors in your own home
Parent company LG will include the first customers of the 5K2K panel. With the 45GX950A and 45GX990A, this promised two models. The 45GX950A is firmly bent on the 800R radius, while the 45GX990A is flexibly designed and can be used flat or twisted (up to 900R).
The 45GX950A is expected to start and hit the market for $1,999 in April 2025, CES’ TFT Central reported in January.
5,120 × 2,880 pixels follow with QD-Oled
Based on Samsung‘s QD-Oled technology, there will soon be more pixels with organic lights. Samsung had shown a prototype with 5,120 × 2,880 pixels and 220 ppi on 27 inches for CES 2025. Specialist media assume that the market launch will not take place before 2026.
