Samsung renews the mid-range A series smartphones with the Galaxy A56, A36 and A26. The company carries out the equipment for all models, but leaves the entry price at the previous year’s level. In addition to the new hardware, AI functions combine under “Awesome Intelligence.”

Start prices like 2024, but more expensive storage upgrades

For the three mid-range smartphones, there is a bit more equipment compared to the Galaxy A55 and A35 as well as the Galaxy A25, which Samsung presented on two separate dates last year. Samsung leaves the starting price of the Galaxy A56 with 8 GB / 128 GB at 479 euros, that of the Galaxy A36 with 6 GB / 128 GB at 379 euros and the entry model Galaxy A26 costs again 299 euros with 6 GB / 128 GB. This time the extra 256 GB with 70 instead of 50 euros is higher for the Galaxy A36 and A26.

Discount campaigns for launch

The more expensive memory upgrade for Galaxy A56 and A36 pre-orders can be skipped until April 22. For these smartphones, memory doubling is free, provided they are ordered directly from Samsung in the store or through the app. For old devices, Samsung pays an exchange bonus of up to 380 euros, Samsung members also receive a 5% discount on the Galaxy A56.

Six years of Android and security updates

All new smartphones run with Android 15 and One UI 7 and, according to Samsung, should be supplied with new Android major versions and security patches for six years from today’s market launch. With “Awesome Intelligence”, the devices also receive part of the Galaxy Ai from the Galaxy series. These include the circle for searching from Google and photo features such as “Best Face” or the ObjectAdier with Gen-AI filling.

Slimmer smartphones with IP67 protection

In terms of design, Samsung has changed all three smartphones to a lower construction depth, so that it is still 7.4 mm (A56, A36) and 7.7 mm (A26). The rejuvenation of the aluminum frame has been maintained above and below the volume and the power button, which should serve as the handle. This time, all variants with IP67 certification face the ingress of dust and water. The new stereo speakers should improve the smartphones.

6.7-inch OLED with up to 1,200 cd / m²

With 6.7 inches this time, all with FHD + resolution and 120 Hz are the same size, but the screen edges have reduced slightly. Only in the Galaxy A56 and A36, the maximum brightness with up to 1,200 cd / m² is now 20% higher than last year.

Once exchanged all processors

There are also hardware upgrades for the processors: the Galaxy A56 goes from the Samsung Exynos 1480 to the Exynos 1580 with newer ARM cores and a stronger GPU, the Galaxy A36 from Exynos 1380 on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 with more bar and the Galaxy A26 on the NPU 1380. The Exynos 1580 in the Galaxy A56 is faster than Exynos 1480 in Galaxy A55. For the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, Samsung only mentions an 8% increase for the CPU, and no improvement is mentioned in the Exynos 1380.

No more microSD in the Galaxy A36

Memory configurations fail unchanged, but unlike the A35, the Galaxy A36 can no longer be used. The Galaxy A26 retains the functionality and now also accepts cards with up to 2TB instead of 1TB.

Same batteries, faster charging

Samsung also leaves the battery across the entire series at 5,000 mAh, but instead of up to 25 watts, the Galaxy A56 and A36 can now be charged with a maximum of 45 watts.

Improved smaller camera

In the Galaxy A56 and A36, Samsung installs new selfie cameras, the Galaxy A26 keeps the equipment known from the previous year. The smartphones range from 32 MP to supposedly worse 12 MP, but Samsung still promises higher quality and also supports video recordings with the main camera and the side of itself. This is possible in HD, full HD and UHD with 30 fps, with the Galaxy A56 also in full HD with 60 fps.
