Experience Report: Thermal Grizzlys Phaseheet PTM on the Radeon RX 6700 XT 0 Comments

Since the temperatures of his Radeon RX 6700 In his reader article, he lets the community participate in the individual steps.
High temperatures forced to change
Due to temperatures of over 100°C in the hotspot, Sahit decided to swap out the old thermal paste and pads.
During the dismantling, it was also clear that the pump effect had already struck and that the change was at exactly the right time. This effect refers to the behavior where the thermal paste is virtually pumped out for more cooling due to the different heat expansion behavior of the two contact surfaces of the chip over time. This happens the stronger a dough is.
First, the VRAM building blocks and VRMs were supplied with the knee-shaped thermal putty mass (CX-H1300). It was only necessary to ensure that there is full contact and that the putty is only applied to the building blocks, but not to the cooler which is too smooth. Sahit showed that IFIXIT’s “Metal Spudger” is more suitable for the application than the supplied plastic spatula.

DAS Thermal Grizzly PhaseSheet PTM
On the GPU, the PTM phase sheet came from Grizzly Thermal*. Unlike a thermal paste, it is based on a phase change material. This means that above a certain temperature it merges into the liquid state and thus contributes to optimal heat transfer without the pump effect being as strong as with conventional thermal paste.
Before assembly, Sahit cooled the phase heet in the refrigerator to approx. 6°C then placed on the GPU.
User Mr. Smith had already tested Honeywell in August 2024 D PTM7950 and explained in detail how it works. Many GeForce RTX 5000 and Radeon Rx 9000 currently rely on such phase change material.
Conclusion
The Grizzly PTM thermal phase pressed the temperature of the GPU in the hotpot in the furmarque benchmark to 95 ° C. This test brings the graphics card to the maximum in a very short time and is therefore ideal for stability tests. The Radeon existed without any problems, so there is nothing in the way of further use for the next few years. Sahit is satisfied.
