Retroid Pocket Classic: Retro Game-Boy Style Handle for Nostalgia Fans Revealed
After Retroid presented a foldable retro Nintendo DS-style handle last month, the Pocket Classic, which is visually more Game Boy-style, is now following suit. The technical features are also impressive.
The Pocket Classic comes with a 3.92-inch AMOLED display, which offers a resolution of 1240 × 1080 pixels and should achieve a brightness of 500 cd/m²—enough to use the handheld outdoors. The handheld cannot be connected to a monitor, but it simply doesn’t have the connection. Plenty of power under the hood
Inside is an unspecified SoC from Qualcomm Works, which is being manufactured and actively processed using the 4nm process. The chip is complemented by 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64 GB of EMMC-5.1 memory, which can be expanded via a microSD card. The built-in battery offers a capacity of 5,000 mAh and can be charged with up to 27 W.

The handheld measures 138 x 89.6 x 26 millimeters and, according to Retroid, weighs 223 grams. Android 14 is used as the operating system, which suggests relatively powerful hardware in this class of device.
At the start of sales, the Pocket Classic will be available in six different color variants, each intended to be a tribute to previous consoles. However, differences in key assignments should be noted: While the classic 6 version has six buttons and is said to be based on the Sega Saturn, the other five variants have four buttons via the classic Abxy layout.
It is currently unknown when exactly the new handheld will arrive. Retroid has not yet provided any information on pricing.
