Microsoft has announced Gaming Copilot. The AI assistant is expected to support players with tips on both selecting and installing games, as well as in-game play. However, a testing phase will begin in April.
The assistant is expected to be available for the Xbox mobile app in April via the Xbox Insider program. Rollout to other devices is expected to follow later.
Tips on Game Mechanics and Strategies
Microsoft is aiming for daily assistance for players. According to one of the preview videos, Gaming Copilot can install a specific game upon request. More interesting is the INGAME feature. The assistant, which can be controlled by voice input, can answer questions about the current game.
Microsoft is showing excerpts in the official Xbox podcast. In Overwatch 2, the assistant provides advice on character selection. In Minecraft, the player explains details about crafting. Because the AI assistant sees the same thing on screen as the player, it can also provide tailored information. In games like Age of Empires 4 (in the benchmark test), there should be advice on strategies or the current game situation, such as a siege.
Preview recordings are still being made. As Versge notes, it’s not yet clear how realistic the demos are for the current level of development.
The testing phase begins a year after the initial announcement.
The announcements aren’t entirely new, either. Microsoft first unveiled the new features in May 2024, when Copilot+ PCs and the new AI capabilities were unveiled. At that time, the fact that the assistant would support Minecraft players was one of the viral announcements.
But little has happened since then. In December 2024, the testing phase of the Vision feature in Copilot for Windows, which benefits from the multimodal capabilities of the OpenAIS GPT-4O model, began. With Vision, the AI assistant can evaluate screen content and assist users, for example, with web activities. It can only be used in Copilot Labs for a limited number of Copilot Pro users.
However, there was still no question of game support as of December. While the testing phase begins in April, Copilot for gaming comes almost a year after the initial announcement. Topics: Applications Gaming Artificial Intelligence Microsoft Microsoft Copilot Source: Xbox Wire
