CB Radio Podcast #113: The Chaos of AM5 Chipsets Explained
This week, Jan embarks on a miraculous journey through the world of AMD’s mainboards on CB radio and sheds light on the chipset chaos of current AM5-based boards. Fabian Lausmen, a member of the group, eagerly asks less experienced PC gamers. This time, it’s (not) about graphics cards.
CB Radio: The One Hundred and Soaked Episode
Who’s still looking at mainboards and chipsets for AMD’s Ryzen 7000 and Ryzen 9000 in the AM5 socket? AMD? No. Fabian? No. Maybe Jan?
With several wishes, the two try to shed light on the darkness this week and offer tips for gamers and other PC users to look out for when purchasing AMD’s current 8000 mainboards. If you’d like to follow both, you can use the links below.
The links to Jan’s Routing Board go to the first mention of Gamescomdie’s current chipset overview: AMD B850 with optional PCIe 5.0 x16? There are 37/39 Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi Handbook, MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk Max WiFi Handbook, MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk Max WiFi Handbook, Asus TUF GAMING X870-PLUS WIFI HANDBOOK, ASUS ROG STRIX X870E-E
Note: In the podcast, Jan talks about 24 PCIe lanes for the Ryzen 7000 and Ryzen 9000 series processors. In fact, there are 28 PCIe-4 lanes for the chipset and, for example, 16 lanes for the graphics card and 2 x 4 lanes for M.2 SSDs. The MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk Max WiFi still connects the chipset with PCIe 5.0, and not as Jan claims with PCIe 4.0.
For once, new graphics cards aren’t the main topic. This CB Radio episode isn’t without mention of them. On the one hand, it’s worth noting that the two articles on the availability of the RTX-50 and RX-9000 graphics cards have now been supplemented with a current price chart, which shows both the best corresponding prices and the median for each GPU under the offers found by the bot. RTX 5000 & RX 9000: New real-time price development information (best price/median) Availability, prices, and offers: Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090, 5080, 5070 TI & 5070 Availability, prices, and offers: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT & RX 9070
And on the other hand, the TechAstuce community’s semi-annual Sunday graphics card question is currently running, to which every reader is invited to participate with their account and is also cordially invited. We hope you enjoy listening!
