Valve has released SteamOS 3.7.8 with a long list of innovations, improvements, and bug fixes. The operating system also offers official support for the Legion Go S, which Lenovo announced in January. There’s improved support for other AMD handhelds, such as the first Legion Go and the Asus ROG Ally.

Following preview and beta releases, SteamOS 3.7.8 is the first stable version to bring official support to other gaming handhelds. It debuts the Legion Go S, which Lenovo announced at CES in January in versions with 11 and SteamOS. The Legion GO S with Windows 11 was scheduled to launch in January for €629, and can currently be found at Lenovo for €579.

For the Legion, go with SteamOS. Lenovo has been waiting until April, and pricing is still unclear. If you visit the product page now, this variant is still only marked “coming soon,” and the price is still missing.

But now there is official support from Valve for the gaming handheld, so SteamOS 3.7.8 can also be installed on the Windows model. The company has updated the SteamOS recovery image for the Bridge and now also for the Legion GO S. Valve explains how to perform the recovery and SteamOS installation. The operating system also brings improved support for the original Legion GO and the ASUS ROG Ally, but both handhelds are not officially supported. Valve also explains how to install them.

Many other innovations and improvements

Aside from this, SteamOS 3.7.8 now uses a new Arch Linux base with an updated Linux Bernel kernel, the MESA graphics driver base, and Plasma 6.2.5 for desktop mode. A frame limiter has been added for VRR displays, and there is now a battery charge limit. SteamOS 3.7.8 also supports more controllers and fixes bugs in others, such as the Switch Pro Controller. The built-in microphone can now be used for Bluetooth headsets, and its battery level is also displayed. Other changes can be found in the changelog.
