OLED monitors: sales could almost triple compared to last year

2024 is the year when OLED monitors will celebrate their breakthrough with a significantly greater variety (of formats). This is also underlined by market research estimates from TrendForce. These assume that 1.44 million OLED monitors will be sold by the end of the year. This would be almost three times more than last year.

More (classic) formats and lower prices

According to TrendForce, the new OLED displays in the 32-inch class in the classic 16:9 format have particularly boosted sales this year. The choice of models, sizes and formats has expanded considerably compared to previous years. Ultimately, the now lower starting prices of OLED monitors are also a factor in increasing sales.

The year 2024 is gradually coming to an end and TrendForce already predicts that around 1.44 million OLED monitors will be sold this year. That’s 181 percent more than a year ago. As a result, sales in 2023 were only expected to be around 510,000 copies.

However, the figures differ significantly from Omdia’s forecasts. In May, Omdia estimated sales at 1.84 million units for 2024, an increase of 123%. The basis of the respective study may not be entirely identical.

Continued and high growth is expected for the years to come.

Samsung’s QD-OLED is clearly the market leader

Samsung laid the foundation for the era of gaming monitors featuring OLED technology with its first panels for monitors in 2022. The Alienware AW3423DW ( review ) was the first of many other models to use the QD panel -Samsung OLED with 3440 × 1440 pixels. in 21:9 format. It was not until 2023 and this year that other formats such as the classic 4K UHD and WQHD in 16:9 began to circulate.

In 2023, a more than half of OLED monitors, or 53.5%, will be equipped with Samsung’s QD-OLED technology, since its competitor Display now offers a whole range of models with its WOLED panels. But for 2024, TrendForce estimates that QD-OLED will clearly regain the upper hand and will be used in 73% of OLED monitors delivered. In return, the share of WOLED should fall to 26 percent, with 1 percent allocated to RGB-OLED.

Brand market shares

Samsung and LG not only equip their own monitor brands with OLED panels, but also supply various other manufacturers. However, Samsung is expected to be the most prevalent OLED monitor brand in 2024 with a 31% share, followed by LG Electronics with 19%. Asus and follow with 14 percent each. MSI is relatively close with 11 percent, while Gigabyte is far behind with 3 percent. Other brands, including Acer, AOC, Corsair, Philips and ViewSonic, together account for 8 percent, according to the study.
