5 Weeks After Market Launch: Nvidia Wants to Ship 2x More RTX 50s Than RTX 40s * 208 comments
Everything points to small quantities of the new GeForce RTX 50, aka Blackwell, graphics cards. There has never been such poor supply at market launch. But Nvidia paints a different picture: allegedly twice as many RTX 50s have been shipped than were the case shortly after the RTX 40 market launch.

This is at least indicated by an Nvidia chart, which plots cumulative GPU movements (shipments, usually sales) as a graph over the first 5 weeks after launch. However, no actual numbers are revealed. Instead, significantly higher sales figures for the RTX 50 series (Blackwell) are shown after launch (ADA Lovelace).

* A question of perspective
As strange as this statement seems at first glance, given the poor availability of the new models at the beginning, it is no longer so strange upon second glance. Because you have to keep in mind that along with the GeForce RTX 50, many other models were released onto the market during the same period after launch. The RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 were released simultaneously on January 30, 2025, and three weeks later, the RTX 5070 TI followed. Two weeks later, the fourth model was launched. Four new-generation models have already been released within 5 weeks.

The situation was very different with the RTX 40 series. The RTX 4090 launched on October 12, 2022, and the RTX 4080 was released just 5 weeks later. The RTX 4070 Ti took another 7 weeks. The RTX 4070 wasn’t released until April 2023, six months after the RTX 4090. Within five weeks of the RTX 4090’s launch, only the RTX 4080 was available.
Prices with model departures within five weeks – additions to the computer base
Sales refer to only two models compared to four models now. The fact that sales figures are already higher, even with a short supply, therefore seems quite plausible.
