So far, ASRock has been mainly known for motherboards, but also Intel and AMD graphics cards, mini PCs and, since 2022, gaming monitors. The Taiwanese manufacturer is now adding power supplies to its portfolio. The market entry is complete with 19 models divided into four series.
A complete portfolio to start with
At the top of ASRock’s new PSU product line is the Taichi series, followed by the Phantom Gaming and Steel Legend series. The Challenger series ends. The series is already known from other product segments. The Steel Legend series has two special features: the 1,000 watt and 850 watt models will be available not only in black, but also in white.
(Almost) all power supplies offer ATX 3.1 with 12V-2×6 according to PCIe 5.1
The PR report suggests this at first glance, but not all power supplies use ATX 3.1 as a technical basis, as a look at the details reveals. However, exceptions can only be found in the Challenger series: Models that have only been certified according to 80Plus Bronze instead of Gold do not offer ATX 3.1 but 2.52.
Power supplies based on ATX 3.1 officially absorb particularly high peak loads, well above the nominal performance, both overall and with a focus on the GPU.

Additionally, ATX 3.1 power supplies also support PCI Express 5.1, meaning they potentially come with the second generation of the 12+4-pin graphics card connector, called 12V-2×6 and no longer 12VHPWR and counting. to transmit a signal. maximum of 600 watts.
Here too it is worth looking into the details, because only the two largest series always offer at least one of these sockets, while the Steel Legend series does not have the 650 watt model. This is also the case with the Challenger and in the 750 watt version with ATX 2.5.2 the plug is only available with a maximum of 450 watts instead of 600 watts. In this case there are classic 6+2 pins, the top model of which also offers eight strands in addition to two 16 pins.
Technical data at a glance
