The ADATA SC730 external SSD is extremely compact, measuring only 3.7 cm long, 2.4 cm wide, and almost 1 cm high. A USB-A or USB-C connector is accessible via the slider. Models with 512 GB or 1 TB should achieve a data transfer rate of 600 MB/s.
With the dimensions mentioned, the ADATA SC730 is more likely to pass as a USB stick, but is marketed as an external SSD. The weight of this small data carrier is a low 7.8 grams. The housing is made from 50% recycled material (PCR), and the manufacturer advertises a 39% reduction in CO2 emissions during manufacturing. Claimed to be the smallest dual-interface SSD
The “world’s smallest dual-interface external SSD” uses USB 3.2 Gen2 with 10 Gbps as its interface. Read how writing speeds should reach 600 MB/s. USB 3.2 Gen2 and UASP are required for optimal performance. The sliding mechanism, which features USB-A and USB-C on one side and USB-C on the other, can be dispensed with. Images show how the mini-SSD can be inserted directly into a notebook or smartphone, for example.

Compatible with mass storage devices running Android, Linux, macOS, or Windows, but re-formatting is required for use on a Mac. Typically, the power supply via the USB port should be sufficient; however, with USB 2.0, it may not be sufficient, so a Y-adapter is required, Adata writes in the operating instructions. Elsewhere, the company mentions 5 volts and 900 mAh, which translates to 4.5 watts.
Price and availability
The ADATA SC730 with 512GB and 1TB capacities is available for online sale at prices of around €56* and €96*.
An alternative is the Sandisk Ultra Dual Drive Luxe, which also offers USB-A and USB-C connectivity with a similar compactness, but, according to the manufacturer, only generates a maximum of 400MB/s when reading.
