After Adobe had already released Photoshop for the iPad in mid-2019 and the app has been expanded with numerous functions since then, almost five years later, the release of the version for iOS and thus for the first time for the iPhone follows. A version for Android smartphones is to be submitted later.
Free to use only with a limited range of functions
Unlike the desktop version, the new iOS variant can be used for free, but with a reduced range of functions. Users have access to basic functions such as levels and masks, and AI-backed tools such as “generative fill” and “expanding generations” are available. Additionally, the Area Repair tool is part of the app as another retouching tool. Various color adjustment tools are also included. Additionally, according to its own information, Adobe provides 1.5 million photos from its own stock library that users can use for their designs.

Extended functions for subscribers
However, additional functions are reserved for payment subscribers. This includes additional AI-based tools for precise selection of people and objects as well as the removal tool. The same goes for the brush tool, clone stamp, and content-based fill. Additionally, subscribers have access to a library with 20,000 fonts.
Photoshop on iPhone can take photos directly from Lightroom or local memory. Additionally, interchange with other Adobe mobile applications such as Adobe Express and the Fresco drawing application is possible. Direct access to Web Photoshop is only available to paying customers.
New application, new price
According to Adobe, the new app was specially developed for mobile phones to make the numerous tools optimally usable even on small screens. At the same time, the company presents a new price with the application: Photoshop Mobile and the web variant are available for $7.99 per month or for an annual payment of $69.99. Users who already subscribed to Photoshop in an existing Adobe plan gained access to the new mobile version at no additional cost.
An application developed for Android smartphones is to follow this year, in which Photoshop celebrates its 35th anniversary.
