Until now, the Instagram iPad app was just a large-scale version of the iPhone version. The social network hadn’t made it a priority to change the condition for many years. That could change now.
No interest
In the 15 years since its launch in 2010, Instagram had repeatedly spoken out against developing an app that took advantage of the iPad’s larger display for more comfortable operation. In February 2022, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri responded to a post by Marques Brownlee, in which he questioned why Meta still hasn’t consistently requested an Instagram app for the iPad: “It’s just not big enough yet to be a priority.” At the time, the issue was raised again a year later, to which Mosseri responded with, “We’re not working on it at the moment.” In his opinion, developing an iPad app would certainly be a reasonable step “that should be done at some point.” However, the number of employees who could handle such a task is so small that the focus is on the overall development of the service. However, the “at some point” seems to have happened.
2025 is expected to be the year for an iPad app.
The news now reports, citing an anonymous source, that Instagram has rethought its attitude and after 15 years, is now working on native support on the iPad. As possible reasons, Instagram’s report gives an effort to consolidate your own position within the framework of social networks, the uncertain legal status of Tiktok under the “divest or ban” law (“sell or ban”) of the bidet government and the tariffs under Trump.
Additionally, according to the report, the service recently showed an early preview of a new editing app for video editing, which would rival ByTedance’s Capcut-Another offering and which could also be affected by a Tikok ban. According to the report, Mosseri should also increasingly try to improve the search function in Instagram.
Introduction of Completed Teen Accounts
Yesterday, the parent company Meta had declared the gradual introduction of teenage accounts for Instagram in Germany with special security establishments and announced new attitudes for young people under 16 on the same train.
