After yesterday’s presentation of the new AI language assistant Alexa +, further details are now known. In an FAQ, Amazon provides, among other things, which Echo speakers and Alexa + smart displays will be available – and which speakers the new AI version will not make.
Start first for echo-show buyers
Amazon had told yesterday during the presentation that Alexa + was compatible with the “almost all” previously sold Echo device, the FAQ now reveals details about this statement.
According to this, everyone for early access can initially apply for Alexa + who own or purchase an Echo Show 8 (test), Echo Show 10 (test), Echo Show 15 (test) or Echo Show 21. During March this year, they should then have access to Alexa +, which can then not only be used on the Echo Show models, but also on all compatible Echo and Fire and Fire models in the household. Alexa + is therefore not limited to these models at the beginning.
Once you have access and opt-in, Alexa+ will start working on all your compatible Echo devices, Fire TV and Fire tablets, as well as your web browser and the Alexa app.

The Amazon presentation had also performed entirely on an echo show and did not show how the new assistant should also showcase his skills without this display. Because the sometimes long responses have always made good use of the screen by visually displaying relevant user content.
No Alexa+ on these Echo models
But later, older echo devices and, above all, echo speakers are supported, but not everyone. Alexa+ will not be offered on the following, sometimes very old, Echo devices:
Echo Dot 1. GenerationCho 1. GenerationCho Plus 1. GenerationCho Tapecho Show 1. GenerationCho Show 2. GenerationCho Spot 1. Generation
However, the previous version of Alexa could still be used for this. Alexa+ will initially not be offered on third-party devices with “Alexa Built-in.”
No obligation to upgrade to Alexa+
Amazon also makes it clear that there is no obligation to upgrade to Alexa+. If you don’t want to use the new voice assistant as a Prime subscriber, you can continue to use the previous Alexa.
$20 or less through Prime
The new, much more powerful Alexa+, which uses various AI models to match, costs $19.99 per month in the US. However, Alexa+ is still free during the early access phase. If you’re a Preferred Member, you don’t have to pay extra because Alexa+ will be part of the core membership going forward, which is even cheaper than Alexa+ alone at $14.99.
