Alleged benchmarks: Radeon RX 9070 XT tied with RX 7900 XTX 343 comments

The Radeon RX 9070 XT could just about match the performance level of the RX 7900 XTX. At least presumed benchmarks point in this direction. A screenshot also shows a high boost clock of 3GHz. However, there are rumors that the TDP has been significantly increased for this purpose.
First benchmarks of the RX 9070 XT?
The new rumors are fueled by screenshots from the Chiphell forum, which repeatedly dig up leaks. In the 3DMark Speedway ray tracing benchmark, the Radeon RX 9070 XT reportedly achieved 6,345 points. As VideoCardz explains, this is about on par with AMD’s flagship Radeon RX 7900 XTX. However, a GeForce RTX 4080 is around 10% faster.

Apparently the benchmarks were created with a beta driver, so performance might be better with the final driver.
Alleged increase in TDP for 3 GHz
At the same time, the statements of the operator Chiphel caused a stir. He writes that you should wait before ordering the GeForce RTX 5000 because “the world has completely changed”. A user known for his leaks throws into the discussion the unconfirmed information that the TBP (Total Board Power) of the RX 9070 XT was increased at the last minute. A screenshot shows a power consumption of 330 watts in the benchmark, while previously the TBP was only 265 watts.

The boost clock also seems high according to a screenshot with the GPU-Z tool. The alleged RX 9070 XT is certified to have a 3,060 MHz boost. While the tool mentions an RX 7800 XT at one point, other entries clearly point to a new model with a Navi 48 GPU.
Navi 48 bigger than expected?
It’s only recently that there have been strong indications that the Radeon RX 9070 XT’s Navi 48 GPU is likely larger than expected. Based on photos of the Navi 48 GPU, the die area is estimated at 390 mm². That would be much larger than previously thought.
RX 9070 (XT) Launching in Q1
AMD has announced the RX 9070 series for Q1 2025. Custom designs from Acer, Asus, ASRock, Gigabyte, PowerColor, as well as Sapphire and XFX will also appear.
