In the United States, Amazon apparently plans to discontinue the ability to download e-books purchased from the online retailer to the home computer at the end of February. This reports several users on Reddit.
In a long discussion, on the social media platform, many users confirmed that when they tried to download their digital books acquired from Amazon, they received a message that the function is disabled on February 26. From now on, it should only be possible to transfer content directly to the Kindle reader via WLAN connection.

So far, this change only appears to affect Kindle users in the United States. In the discussion, users from other countries, including Great Britain, who are still able to download their purchased e-books in AZW format to the PC. A test in the editorial team of the computer base also showed no changes: all selected books could be saved without any problems.
In the past, Amazon first introduced new features or changes in the United States and later expanded to other countries. Furthermore, the question remains whether different regional legal provisions play a role in implementation.
Massive inconveniences for the user
If Amazon also implements this restriction in Germany, users in this country no longer have the option to secure their e-books purchased outside the Amazon ecosystem and, if desired, only to transfer cables and would therefore be even more dependent on the company’s infrastructure. Although there is always the possibility of converting digital books acquired from other providers via caliber or other software into Kindle format and transferring it to the device, the question remains whether Amazon could also prevent this option in the future.
