AMD APU Roadmap: No New Laptop Chips in Sight for 2026 So Far

According to an unofficial roadmap, AMD will not release any new laptop APUs in 2026, at least in the consumer sector. Instead, there will be refreshed series in the form of Strix Point Refresh and Krackan Point Refresh.

Roadmaps until 2026

The roadmap in question is part of a whole series of “leaks” from popular user Golden Pig Upgrade, who just last week predicted Arc 2.0 “Battlemage” for December. In the “ultra thin and versatile” domain, AMD will stick to the Strix Point aka AI 300 (test) in 2025 and will only follow up with a refresh of the Strix Point APUs the following year. As is known, Krackan Point, a lower performance class, will debut early next year and will also receive a refresh in 2026.

Hawk Point (Ryzen 8040) will be downgraded in 2025 and will form the new entrance below Krackan Point under a new name (Ryzen 200). There are no new products on the roadmap for this segment for 2026. It remains to be seen whether nothing will happen or whether nothing is yet known. The FP7 socket will likely be discontinued.

The “Enthusiast Gaming and Mobile Workstation” segments will also be replenished in early 2025 with Fire Range and Strix Halo. Fire Range, the successor to Dragon Range (Test), is expected to offer up to 16 cores 5 and X3D variants for gamers. Strix Halo is the APU with probably up to 40 CU iGPUs, which should appear as Ryzen AI 300 Max. There is no successor to Fire Range in the roadmap for 2026. Strix Halo is also expected to serve in 2026.

All-round blow at CES 2025

With Krackan Point, Fire Range and Strix Halo, AMD is expected to present three new APU series at the CES 2025 electronics show in early January. New RDNA 4 , additional Ryzen 9000X3Ds, and new chips for gaming handhelds are also expected there.
