AMD CEO Lisa Su confirmed: Radeon 9070s sold ten times more than usual in week 1 204 comments

The Radeon 9070 outsold any other Radeon graphics card in the first week after launch. These numbers were ten times higher than the regular figures for that period, Lisa Su emphasized. More cards are coming, and manufacturing capacity has been adjusted, meaning increased, according to Su.
The AMD CEO’s explanation also clarifies why cards may be in short supply. A tenfold increase in sales and production volumes likely didn’t factor into the company’s long-term forecasts. In this regard, it’s surprising that AMD had and was able to sell this amount so early on. The long quarter certainly helped; the cards were originally supposed to be released in mid-January, but AMD had time until early March to build up a corresponding inventory with partners.
