AMD wants to finally present the Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT in a live stream in detail next Friday. Already the previous weekend, numerous benchmarks from the manufacturer were now stabbed in direct comparison with the RADEON RX 7900 GRE and more details on the navigation system.
Smaller GPU, more transistors
In the meantime, new information concerns the first rDNA 4 graphics cards. Almost no day passes without new details about the Radeon RX 9070 (XT) – not even on weekends. With the recently broken clock rates and TBP values, there are already key figures for the NAVI-48 GPU itself. On the one hand, in the Chinese Tieba Baidu Online Forum there is a 350 mm² chip, which means that the GPU is a little smaller, it has been failing since January. At that time, around 390 mm² was calculated based on an early photo of the chip. This would have the NAVI-48 GPU more than the GB203 of the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti (test) and RTX 5080 (test), which had raised questions accordingly, not least about production costs.

With around 350 mm², on the other hand, NAVI 48 would be similar to the NAVI-32 GPU of the Radeon RX 7800 XT, with the comparison of a monolithic with a chiplet GPU. This is also shown by the opinion of the number of transistors: as reported by Videocardz, the navigation system should have a total of 53.9 billion transistors, which would be 92% more than in the 32 navigation.

NVIDIAS GB203 with 45.6 billion transistors would also be clearly outdated, with which rDNA 4 is apparently packaged like Blackwell. The RTX-50-GPUs released so far are all in the 120 million transistors per square millimeter range, but the navigation system made by TSMC, on the other hand, is said to be 154 million.
Manufacturer references give initial performance insights
Additionally, Videocardz allegedly alleged manufacturer references for the Radeon RX 9070 (XT), which AMD reportedly stunned at a press event. The benchmarks seem quite authentic and certify the Radeon RX 9070 With graphics settings maximized, the thread should be 51%. According to AMDS measurements in UHD, the Radeon RX 9070 would average 21% or 38% would lead to the RX 7900 GRE.
AMD speaks for these key figures of a total of 30 games tested, but in detail the video card is only available for benchmark results for 20 games, measured in ultra-preset for WQHD and UHD.

When comparing with other graphics cards or even other architectures, caution is advised: AMD’s benchmark also includes many games with ray tracing enabled. And with these titles, the performance gain from rDNA 3 to rDNA 4 is particularly significant depending on the benchmarks, which in accordance with AMDS is already on the CES communicated goal of massively expanding raytracing performance. If the manufacturer’s benchmark in hassle was at the end, the Radeon RX 9070 XT in UHD would be right on par with the RX 7900 With Raytracing, the TOP RDNA-3 model would be beaten by around 10%, but the lead of the two GeForce graphics cards would increase to around 10-15%. The RTX 5080 would be around 25% faster in this scenario.
In view of the Radeon RX 9070 without XT and benchmarks in WQHD, a gridzer performance can be identified about 6% below the RX 7900 When it comes to the GeForce competition, the RTX 4070 Ti would be the closest the opponent comes to not being slowed down by its 12GB VRAM. However, that’s not enough for the RTX 4070 Ti Super.
Caution, skepticism is appropriate
However, this is all under the restriction that the manufacturer’s benchmarks created by AMD have in fact been correctly reproduced and correctly reproduced by Videocardz. It’s also unclear to what extent AMD used the benchmarks for FSR. In addition, the restriction applies regardless of which comparisons with, among other things, the graphics cards tested on shaky legs are on shaky legs. So there will only be complete clarity in the coming weeks. On February 28, AMD wants to present the two new graphics cards in detail and according to rumors, testing and market launch in the first week of March.
