AMD Ryzen 7 9800x3d: The best gaming processor gets cheaper and more available 67 comments

The Ryzen 7 9800x3d seems to be out of the woods
Almost three months ago, on November 6, 2024, the Ryzen 7 9800x3d went on sale. Availability has improved in recent weeks, but at the same time the processor has become increasingly emancipated from its RRP for a while: instead of costing 529 euros, as AMD announced at launch from the market, the latest 3D V-Cache CPU was still available just over a week ago, it was only available from 599 euros – of course from AMD’s favorite mail order company MindFactory. In some places MindFactory had a virtual monopoly on the R7 9800x3d available in stock; At the start of the year, a processor was sold on average every two and a half minutes.
In recent days, however, this picture has changed. After TechAstuce was able to report the increasing sales prices of the most powerful gaming processor every week, there was the first sign of a trend reversal a week ago on January 18: Mindfactory had reduced the price by 599 euros to 589 euros. And today the Ryzen 7 9800x3d costs “only” 579 euros* at Mindfactory.

What is worth noting, however, is that MindFactory no longer offers the cheapest deal for an R7 9800x3D available from stock. In fact, the difference may not be great, but it nevertheless marks a turning point. A handful of other retailers are also undercutting MindFactory, while price comparison generally shows greater availability and more high price jumps.
Still unmatched in games
There is currently no alternative to this level of performance. Intel has nothing to object to in the gaming context. And the second predecessor of the R7 9800x3d, the Ryzen 7 7800x3d (test), has become increasingly expensive since last fall, after being available for around 300 euros at the start of summer. It is currently available from 489 euros. The price development of the R9 7950X3D has also been planning the market launch of the successor for months. It went from 500 euros to 685 euros currently.
The Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D are expected to appear in March, both of which offer an x3D chiplet as usual. Experience shows that the 16-core processor will be on par with the R7 9800x3d. However, AMD has not yet announced pricing.
