Anti-war game This War of Mine: 10th anniversary DLC raises funds for Ukraine 26 comments
The award-winning anti-war game This War of Mine celebrates its 10th anniversary. However, 11 Bit Studios currently sees no reason to celebrate. With a new charitable DLC, Polish developers want to support international aid and human rights organizations, especially war-torn Ukraine.

Given Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine and the suffering of war in Eastern Europe, the game’s themes are more relevant than ever. Publisher and developer 11 Bit Studios is also aware of this. Given this, the tenth anniversary of this remarkable indie game is difficult to celebrate: “While we cannot celebrate in the face of ongoing conflict, silence feels just as bad,” the developers said. From the start of the Russian offensive in February 2022, 11 Bit Studios used the game to draw attention to the situation there and donated its revenues. In total, more than 850,000 euros were raised at the time.
This success is set to be repeated with the new Forget Celebrations expansion. All revenue generated by 11 Bit Studios from the 2.99 euro DLC will be donated to the Liberty Ukraine Foundation, Amnesty International, War Child and Indie Games Poland.

In terms of content, Forget Celebrations promises a new story within the familiar setting of the war-torn town of Pogoren. The idea is actually to document the stories of the residents, but this attempt is abruptly interrupted by a rocket attack.
This War of Mine: Forget Celebrations is a DLC with a new story and special items, but most importantly, it offers players the opportunity to support people in need.
Take the opportunity to revisit the besieged town of Pogoren with Katia, an experienced war correspondent and one of the citizens you may remember from This War of Mine. The DLC begins with Katia attempting to write a book about the tragic stories of people torn apart by conflict.
A sudden rocket attack shakes Katia’s house and stops her work. Seriously injured, she is now waiting for a rescue team sent by her publisher. Before she arrives, you must help Katia search for the missing documents from her book while trying to survive in a war-torn city.
The base game is currently available on Steam and GoG at the heavily reduced price of 3.79 euros; the complete edition with all previous expansions costs 4.68 euros. The game works on Windows, macOS and Linux. The system requirements aren’t worth mentioning in 2024.

This War of Mine is an award-winning indie survival game released in 2014 by 11 Bit Studios. Players do not control soldiers or entire armies, but rather take on the role of civilians who must fight to survive in a city under siege. The focus is on morally difficult decisions, such as how to distribute scarce resources or how to deal with other survivors. Inspired by real conflicts, the game offers a dense atmosphere and encourages reflection on the effects of war on the civilian population.
Reviews, as well as over 60,000 “very positive” reviews on Steam, praise the game’s emotional depth and innovative gameplay. This War of Mine is considered one of the most important anti-war games today. It was only in October that the game received a special recognition award from Amnesty International.
