Atari 2600 My Play Watch: Pong and Missile Command play 2 comments on the watch

After Atari tried to secure a piece of the retro market at the end of 2023 with the 2600+ (review), the manufacturer is now launching the Atari 2600 My Play Watch. It can play the four Atari classics: Pong, Super Breakout, Centipede, and Missile Command, but other features are scarce.
The watch has a 2.02-inch TFT display with a touchscreen; a typical OLED display for smartwatches would likely have been too expensive for the manufacturer, with a retail price of $79.99. The four pre-installed games can be controlled using a paddle controller, either via the display or the watch crown. Visually, the model is strongly reminiscent of the space invaders that my gaming watch found its way onto Kickstarter last year and, unlike the Atari watch, only contained the game of the same name.
Barely a Smartwatch Function
The Atari 2600 My Play Watch doesn’t even attempt to compete with its high-priced competitors; given its rather sparse functional features, this would hardly be possible. It only offers basic fitness tracking functions such as a pedometer, calorie consumption, and heart rate measurement. Neither Wi-Fi nor Bluetooth are available, so the watch can’t even be paired with a smartphone and therefore can’t display any messages or incoming calls. The option to install additional apps should therefore be ignored.

However, there are customization options for the appearance: users can choose between different dials and sound effects for alarms, timers, and other audio commentaries in the style of the Atari 2600. In addition, the IP68-rated watch is protected against dust and water up to a depth of one meter.
Can be pre-ordered now, delivery mid-year
The ATARI 2600 My Play Watch can currently be pre-ordered directly from ATARI for $79.99, with delivery expected starting June 10, 2025. Early adopters also receive three interchangeable straps with retro graphic designs, which, according to Atari, will only be available for a limited time.
