Chinese manufacturer Ayaneo, known for its numerous handhelds, has announced an Android handheld with the Pocket Ace. The retro-designed console features Hall Effect joysticks and the Snapdragon G3X Gen 2 as its core. Pricing and availability are still pending.

Ayaneo aims to win over retro gaming fans with its motto. The mobile console’s appearance is based on the simple design of previous gaming systems. But under the hood, the manufacturer is relying on contemporary hardware and a large battery. The heart of the new companion is the Snapdragon G3X Gen 2. This is a chip developed by Qualcomm, specifically for gaming laptops, with 8K cores and an Adreno-A3 GPU. The latter even offers ray tracing and twice the performance of the first G generation. Support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 is also provided on the chip side. Further details and the configuration of the Pocket ACE are not yet known. In the associated Pocket, the SOC operates with up to 3.36 GHz on the Prime core and GPU clocks with 1 GHz.

Display and Controls

An LCD panel with a resolution of 1620 × 1080 pixels serves as the display. The size of only 4.5 inches allows the small console to be held in place. Room effect joysticks are used for control. A new 0916b motor is responsible for vibration.

Other technical data and software

A large 6,000 mAh battery provides plenty of power for gaming on the go. It can be charged at 40 watts. The software uses Android, which is not detailed further. Ayaneo combines the operating system with its own developments: Ayaspace and Ayahome, a mobile management software. As a result, standard Android apps such as the Firefox browser, as well as social media apps like Instagram, can also be used on the console.
