Larian is saying goodbye: Update 8 is “The Final Patch,” the last major update for the role-playing Baldur’s Gate 3. However, the studio is ending the project with a bang. The patch brings new subclasses, crossplay, a photo mode, and trading cards on —and is accompanied by a short film.

The eighth update allows each main class to specialize in a new subclass. Each one should allow new ways to play and bring new skills and dialogues. It can be unlocked as soon as the saved level is reached.

In addition, players can play together on PC, Mac, , and in multiplayer. The connection is established via the Larian network, where in-game lobbies can be created. The prerequisite is that all players have the same mod version installed. Any differences are reported when joining a session, and Larian then allows mods to be installed, activated, and upgraded or downgraded. PC players should keep in mind that a maximum of 100 mods can be activated on consoles, and third-party mods that have not been verified by Larian cannot be used. The studio highlights the multiplayer fun in a short animated film.

The release notes also contain a long list of bug fixes and minor improvements in everything from modding to combat, performance, and gameplay. Baldur’s Gate 3 will not receive any new content or developments. “We’ve told our stories and planned,” Larian explains. The focus is now on the next project—otherwise, improvements can be made until the end of time, the studio justifies its conclusion. Accordingly, further patches will only address bugs if necessary.

How Baldur’s Gate 3 is, among other things, reflected in the user ratings: over 650,000 reviews on Steam are and remain “overwhelmingly positive.” To mark the final update, the title can also be purchased on Steam and GOG until April 21st with a 20% discount for around €48. The editorial team thanks PC reader “Syrato” for rating this post!
