Onyx is expanding its BOOX series portfolio with the GO 7 and the second generation of the Go Color 7, which are designed for both reading and note-taking. However, both e-book readers only run on 13, including a store connection for installing their own apps.

7-inch display and pen input

Both e-book readers feature a 7-inch display from the e-ink specialist, each with a pixel density of 300 ppi and thus offering a resolution of 1,264 × 1,680 pixels. The differences are presented by the integrated panels: the GO 7 uses E-INCS CARTA-1300 technology for grayscale, while the GO COLOR 7 (GEN II) uses a Kaleido-3 display that can display up to 4,096 colors.

Due to technical limitations, the pixel density for colored content drops to 150 ppi. As is customary with modern e-readers, the integrated foreground lighting has a blue light filter but not a brightness sensor. The 137 x 156 mm, 6.4 mm thick, and only 195 g heavy e-reader can be comfortably operated via the existing flip buttons.

New pen for digital notes

Effortlessly jot down thoughts, mark text, and describe books with the optional Incense pen, which can also be used as an electronic notepad. It has a 65 mAh lithium polymer and offers 4,096 pressure levels. Unlike many previous models, ONYX no longer relies on the expertise of digitizer specialist Wacom.

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, and 4 GB of RAM

The CPU, which is not specifically named, is said to have eight cores and controls 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, the latter of which can be expanded with a memory card. and Bluetooth 5.1 are also available. Audio content can also be output via the two built-in speakers, and a USB-C adapter is required for headphones or wired speakers.

“Only” Android 13

The Android 13 used is no longer up-to-date, but it also brings Play Store integration, through which other apps can be installed. However, various tests of corresponding devices using computers have shown that many apps are still not optimized for using online displays and that there may therefore be limitations. Go 7 now, Go Color 7 (Gen II) later

The GO 7 is now available in white and black, with Boox listing an RRP of €249.99. The GO Color 7 (Gen II) is expected to follow soon in black and will be available for an RRP of €279.99. Onyx is listing a price of €45.99 for the incense pen.
