Shortly after the release of its predecessor Palma (test), Boox presented the Palma 2. In addition to the update to Android 13, the main innovations include the integrated fingerprint sensor. The new Note Air 4 C was also presented.
The now integrated fingerprint sensor aims to make the new generation of the Boox Palma suitable for everyday office life and to protect important data from prying eyes, which also benefits privacy. In the future, to unlock you will just need to press the power button.
But this is not the only innovation that the new mini e-book reader offers: while its predecessor was powered by a somewhat old Snapdragon 665, it has now been withdrawn in favor of a Snapdragon 690. Its production in 8nm versus 11nm The SoC of the first Palma could also guarantee slightly lower power consumption. Onyx does not provide any clock speed information; According to Qualcomm’s own specifications, the two Cortex-A77 cores can be clocked up to 2 GHz and the six Cortex-A57 cores up to 1.7 GHz, meaning that at least this performance is comparable to that of his predecessor. RAM has also remained the same at 6GB, as has long-term storage at 128GB.

According to the specifications given in the press release, Boox increased the display by 0.1 inch to 6.13 inches; the resolution is still 824 × 1648 pixels, which corresponds to a pixel density of 300 ppi. The new generation of Palma also has a 2:1 format screen. The panel with E-Ink Carta 1200 displays 16 shades of gray; the device still does not support color display.
WLAN according to 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 5.1 ensure that the e-book reader can establish the necessary contact with the outside world. The built-in battery with a capacity of 3950 mAh is also intended for the Palma 2 to ensure long operating times. The rear camera with a resolution of 16 MP is mainly intended to demonstrate its advantages when scanning documents, which can then be processed using OCR software.
Instead of Android 11, version 13 of Google’s mobile operating system is now used in the new model, which could mainly be due to the new supply of SoCs and drivers. Again, the Google Play Store is preinstalled, with which the player can easily be expanded to include suitable apps.
The Palma 2 natively supports up to 20 formats via its own NeoReader, although this number can be expanded at any time using additional apps. For example, it is possible to read digital books purchased from Amazon on the Palma 2 using the Kindle application.
Boox now offers the new Palma 2 in Ivory White and Deep Cyan Black colors. The manufacturer’s recommended price is 299.99 euros. For models purchased from its own store, Boox includes a semi-transparent case, while the foldable protective cover can be purchased for an additional 7.99 euros.
Note Air 4C
Boox also presented the successor to the Note Air 3 C (test), but according to the technical sheet the changes are limited. The software base of the new E-Note is no longer Android 11, but also Android 13, and the RAM has also been increased by two gigabytes to a total of six gigabytes.
