Canceled without replacement: Solidigm has left the SSD client business 9 comments

There hasn’t been a new client SSD from Solidigm on the market in years and it will likely stay that way. The media are talking about a discontinuation of consumer SSDs, which is confirmed by the corresponding entries on the manufacturer’s homepage. From now on, the company will focus entirely on enterprise SSDs.
In October 2022, Techconseil last reported on a client SSD from Solidigm, because at that time the subsidiary SK Hynix, from the former Intel flash division, presented the Solidigm P44 Pro. This NVMe SSD in M.2 format no longer had much to do with Intel’s heritage, but rather relied on the components of the Platinum P41 from SK Hynix.
Client SSDs abandoned at Solidigm
If you search for this model on the official Solidigm website, you will still find a reference to the old product page, but the link more or less leads nowhere. The “SSD Client” category is now completely absent from the “Products” tab, as the IT Home site discovered.
Under the public radar, Solidigm officially retired the P44 Pro along with other P41 Plus client models and the rebranded Intel SSDs 670p and 660p in October 2024 (End of Life, EOL), as revealed by the listing of these products Abandoned solidigm. . The column for possible replacement remains empty, so no successor is planned.

The links listed in the list will take you to the older product pages, which now contain clear instructions on how to configure SSDs.
However, Solidigm’s client SSDs have not completely disappeared from the market yet, as some retailers still have leftover inventory; even 670p, which is old for the computer age, can still be ordered here and there.
Has the SSD Client division been dissolved for a long time?
As Tom’s Hardware claims to have learned from its own sources, Solidigm’s “consumer SSD division” was shut down in October 2023 amid layoffs. This step was reportedly “sudden and unexpected” as a new client SSD was on its way to testers.
This is probably not due to the reputation of Solidigm SSDs, as the P44 Pro and P41 Plus performed convincingly in tests.
Ultimately, as part of its branding strategy, SK Hynix may have decided to only offer Solidigm SSDs to enterprise customers. Solidigm still has a lot going on in the server market, including the recently announced 122TB SSDs.
