Cloud Gaming: GeForce Now coming soon with Steam Deck and VR support

As part of CES 2025, Nvidia is offering new features to users of the GeForce Now cloud gaming service. On the one hand, there will be a native GeForce Now application for the Steam Deck this year, and on the other hand, support for VR glasses is expected.

Native Steam Deck app

The ability to use GeForce Now on Steam Deck isn’t entirely new. In 2024, Nvidia itself presented a way to make the application work on the Steam Deck, but the application – or rather its use – was only to be understood as a beta version and the installation involved effort. This year, there will be a native app for the Steam Deck, which should significantly simplify accessibility to Nvidia’s cloud gaming service.

Using a cloud gaming service on mobile devices two decisive advantages: on the one hand, GeForce Now offers more computing power than the Steam Deck (or other mobile ) could provide, and On the other hand, battery usage decreases because the calculation simply does not take place on the local device. Always assuming you have a good connection and pay the extra fees for the GeForce Now subscription.

Virtual reality support

At the same time, Nvidia also announced support for various VR glasses, including an “expanded” game library for them.

More AAA games for GeForce Now

Nvidia also announced two more titles for GeForce Now. On the one hand Avowed, which should be available at the same time as the PC release in February, and Doom: The Dark Ages upon its release.

More GeForce Now data centers

Finally, although probably of little interest to European gamers, Nvidia announced two new GeForce Now data centers, one for India and one for Thailand.

The three South American countries, Colombia, Peru and Chile, have also been added.

Availability

VR headset support is announced “later this month”, so it should be available by the end of January. The Steam Deck app, on the other hand, was only vaguely promised for “later this year”. So it could certainly take a few more months here.
