CPU CHARMER Barely Available: Scythe UE in Preliminary Insolvency Administration 79 Comments
CPU coolers from the manufacturer Scythe are barely available in this country. This had already been noticed in the computer hardware community, and the question was asked: what’s going on? Now there’s an answer: Scythe UE GmbH is apparently insolvent, or at least just about to become so.
In the case of Scythe UE, bankruptcy is looming.
As reported by the Consumer Protection Forum, the “Provisional Insolvency Administration” was ordered by the Reinbek District Court on April 17, 2025, to secure the business assets of Scythe UE GmbH, according to the wording. While Scythe has its roots in Japan, sales in Europe are handled by Scythe UE GmbH, based in Oststeinbek, Schleswig-Holstein. The period between the filing of the insolvency application and the initiation of insolvency proceedings, which typically lasts two to three months, is referred to as the preliminary bankruptcy proceedings.
More Coolers Are Hardly Available
In the computer science community, it was already noticeable that newer products such as the Scythe Mugen 6 are no longer available in online retail. In general, CPU coolers, with availability in German-speaking online retailers, appear to be very poor.
Now, the “economic difficulties” that made it necessary to intervene in the insolvency court are causing delivery bottlenecks. Therefore, there should be a lack of funds to be able to supply more goods to retailers. The Consumer Protection Forum draws the following conclusion, but also emphasizes that there are still no final bankruptcy proceedings.
Whether Scythe UE GmbH will be given a second chance through restructuring or restructuring, or will ultimately be liquidated, depends on the interim insolvency administrator’s assessment and the court’s decision on the final opening of proceedings. A period of uncertainty begins for customers, partners, and employees—but also the possibility that an economic recovery can be achieved under professional supervision.

About Scythe
The parent company, Scythe, was founded in Tokyo in November 2002. This was followed by research and development facilities in China, as well as subsequent sales branches in Germany and California. Initially, Scythe’s focus was primarily on products for cooling PC components. Techastuce has been reporting on Scythe CPU coolers since 2006, such as the Scythe Mugen (review) and its successors. More recently, the Scythe Mugen 6 and complaints about counterfeit products in China have focused on computer-related topics.
