Crucial, a subsidiary of the Micron brand, is taking advantage of CES 2025 to present another PCIe 5.0 SSD. The P510 uses Phison’s E31T controller and is below the T700 series with E26. A maximum of 11,000 MB/s reading and 9,500 MB/s writing are promised.

PCIe 5.0 will be more economical

The Crucial P510 is presented by Micron in collaboration with Phison as the first SSD to combine Phison’s new E31T controller with Micron’s new 276-layer G9 TLC NAND.

Previously, the E31T was only available with ‘s BiCS8-TLC-NAND. The controller debuted on the Corsair MP700 Elite (test), which with a maximum of 10,000 MB/s read and 8,500 MB/s write is slightly slower than the Crucial P510 with Micron memory.

Crucial has not yet released any details on the P510, but presents the usual M.2 format with single-sided assembly and heat sink. The P510 is expected to hit stores in spring 2025 with storage volumes of 1 TB and 2 TB. Prices have not yet been announced. However, these are probably based on those of the Corsair MP700 Elite, available in the version with heat sink for around 145 euros with 1 TB or 230 euros with 2 TB.

The 4-channel E31T controller, manufactured in 7nm, is much more economical than the much larger 8-channel E26, manufactured in 12nm. So it’s no surprise that the Crucial P510 consumes about 25% less power than previous Crucial SSDs with PCIe 5.0. However, the SSDs tested so far with the Phison E31T do not require 6 watts under load. Compared to a Crucial T700/T705 with 12 watts at its maximum, these save even more power than Crucial currently promises for the P510.

A cooler option for the P310

The Crucial P310 (review) is a few levels lower in terms of performance. The SSD with Phison E27T and QLC NAND is available in mini format (M.2-2230) and in M.2-2280 version. For this latest version, a variant with cooler is now available. It’s flat enough to be used on the PlayStation 5. No pricing information is given here either.
