DLSS 4 celebrated its premiere today in RTX 5090 testing. The new DLSS is already moving into Cyberpunk. Players can use it to try out DLSS 4 before the RTX 50 starts and view and evaluate new AI models to improve. One supported graphics card provided.
DLSS 4 for RTX GPUs
Basically all RTX graphics types benefit from the update since the RTX 20 series, but to a different extent: RTX 20, 30 and 40 have access to the new DLSS Super Resolution 4, which would like to be upscaled with a new AI Model. In a first test, however, the result was mixed. NVIDIA is also using the same AI model for a new version of Ray Reconnast and is also enabled with the update for all RTX cards. Additionally, the developer fixed artifacts and glitches on Night City screens.
DLSS 4 also brings a new version of frame generation to require less storage space for RTX 40 cards.
DLSS 4 also features faster individual frame generation for RTX cards from the 50s and 40s, whereby less storage space is used than before. In addition, you can now choose among all “GeForce RTX” graphics cards between the CNN model and the new transformer model for DLSS Ray, DLSS Super Resolution and DLAA reconstruction. The new transformer model improves stability, lighting and details in movement.

MFG is here, but asks for RTX 50
The update explicitly speaks of support for NVIDIA’s new Multi Frame DLSS generation, but as announced by CES, a new RTX 50 graphics card is required. So far, the function can only be tried out by media partners, whom Nvidia has provided a test card in advance. With the RTX 5090 and 5080, the first compatible cards appear on Thursday next week, but availability is expected to be poor. Techastuce has already subjected the multi-frame generation to a first analysis.
Additional changes
In addition to the new DLSS functions, the update also brings additional changes in the photo mode that the developer lists via a blog post. As usual, the update contains a number of bug fixes for quests and the game world, also for consoles.
Patch now available
The heavy patch 2.21 according to forum posts is already available via Steam and is also provided via GOG Galaxy. Additionally, the patch is rolling out without the new DLSS features for the PlayStation 5 (Pro) Series X/S and PlayStation 5 consoles.
