The days of survival gaming are gone (review) just got prettier and bigger for the PS5. Improvements in the remastered version can also be purchased as an upgrade in the form of DLC, as is common. Sony also differentiates the PS4 and PS5 version on the PC.

The story of former biker gang member Deacon St. John, who is looking for his wife for a zombie apocalypse, gets a real PS5 upgrade with DLC five years after the first release for 4 in the form of remastered days, which goes beyond a performance patch – also on the PC. The strategy is already known in other games from the publisher.

Innovations at a glance

For PlayStation 5 (Pro), Sony is screwing up the graphics quality and increasing, among other things, the rendering distance of plants and the quality of shadow and light calculation. You can choose between “quality” settings for maximum resolution and “performance” for higher frame rates.

The remaster also supports the PlayStation consoles’ current Sensual Dual Stick haptic trigger. This should affect, for example, when riding the protagonist’s motorcycle and in fights.

There are also new options for barrier-free play. This category includes high contrast mode, game speed, interface description, hints, controller FOV and the ability to change the controller key assignment. The photo mode is also undergoing improvements.

New game modes for fans

The new game modes are clearly to be understood as an offer for fans who can’t get enough days. In this category, a horde mode counts in which the protagonist must face much larger groups and other enemies. New characters and cosmetic extras can be activated here. Additionally, the story can be played with the DLC in Permadeath and Speedrun mode.

Cost and publication date

The game and DLC upgrade will be available on April 25. Days Gone Remastered is sold purely digitally for around 50 euros, the DLC with the innovations costs around 10 euros.

Only the purchase of the DLC is offered on the PC. However, there are no graphical improvements, suggesting that Sony only hired the graphics controller for the PS5 version. On Steam and the Epic Games Store, buyers only receive game modes, enhanced photo mode, dual sense support, and new barrier freedom modes.
