Dell in transition: more AMD Ryzen alongside Intel Core (Ultra) in systems

AMD processors in Dell laptops? It was difficult to find until now. This is expected to change in 2025, with more Ryzen (Pro) arriving at Dell. Dismantling this stronghold that Intel has been in for decades won’t be easy, but the first steps are underway.

Although Techtip already talked about professional solutions in the overview “New brand for laptops and desktops: Dell buries XPS and Co in favor of only three classes”, a few details subsequently emerged that allow separate reflection specifically towards AMD. .

If you look at Dell’s press kit for CES 2025, it’s almost only Dell with Intel and sometimes Nvidia, which provides a GPU. So nothing has fundamentally changed here, which also shows how long the road will be for AMD in reality. But officially, it is written:

Dell Technologies is expanding its collaboration with AMD to offer AMD Ryzen processors across the Dell portfolio, Dell Pro and Dell Pro Max.

The issue was so important to AMD that they even addressed it on stage at the CES 2025 press conference and invited Dell – after all, the new RDNA4 graphics solution was not allowed to do so. Both emphasize that this should be the start of better cooperation.

This was already indicated in the fall of 2024. At the time, AMD invited Techconseil to discuss this topic, because the tone of AMD laptops at IFA 2024 was often not particularly good. AMD already assured at the time that things would improve in the future and that other partnerships would follow. This is now starting to pay off, as AMD proudly states in its own press release.

Dell’s German press release mentions several solutions which will be available from spring. However, AMD is never the only one represented in these products; there will always be variants with Intel Core Ultra 200:

However, it remains unclear when Dell will actually go to market with AMD Ryzen, in what configuration and in which countries – the coming months will likely show. However, AMD has not yet managed to break all of Intel’s strongholds at Dell: the new gaming flagship, the Alienware Area-51, is based on an Intel Core Ultra 9 and a GeForce RTX 5080. This shows that even the best CPU games on the market aren’t automatically the same old friendships that can fall apart.
