Amazon is introducing a new Kindle lineup, which also includes a new e-reader, the Kindle Colorsoft, which features a color display for the first time on the Kindle. The Kindle Scribe has a paper-like screen, the Kindle Paperwhite is the thinnest and fastest Kindle, and the new Kindle is the least expensive.
Kindle Colorsoft: The First Kindle with a Color Display
The new Kindle Colorsoft brings color to the Kindle for the first time ever. However, it must offer high contrast and fast page turns. The frontlight also adjusts automatically. For the first time, users can now browse colored covers and view color book images in the Kindle Library or Kindle Store. You can also add colored markers to find them more easily later.
The colors on the Kindle Colorsoft display are meant to be “paper-like” and therefore colorful but also pleasant to read. The display can display over 4,000 colors, which is considered next-generation display technology, although Amazon is not specific here. An oxide backplane with waveforms is meant to enable fast performance and higher contrast for both color and black-and-white content. The Colorsoft display features a new light guide with nitride LEDs, meant to enhance colors and increase brightness without blurring details.

The Colorsoft Kindle also offers wireless charging and a battery life of up to eight weeks. It is waterproof, so users can take it with them in the bath or to the beach.

Kindle Scribe: write directly in books
The redesigned Kindle Scribe allows for the first time to write directly in books and is intended to combine all the possibilities of a Kindle with those of a digital notebook. With Active Canvas, users can write their annotations directly on the current page. The note is connected to the text and the text of the book flows dynamically around it. According to Amazon, when users increase the font size, change the font style, or change the layout of the book, it ensures that the note stays in the right place and doesn’t lose context.

The screen is now surrounded by a white frame and has a paper-like texture that Amazon says “allows you to write like on paper.” The pixel density is 300 ppi, which ensures sharp images. The new stylus should be no heavier than a real pen and now also has a new soft eraser.

Kindle Paperwhite: The Fastest Kindle Yet
The Kindle Paperwhite is Amazon’s best-selling Kindle. Amazon is now introducing the fastest model yet. Page turns should be 25% faster than its predecessor and scrolling through your own library or Kindle store should be faster and smoother too.

The display uses a thin oxide film transistor, enabling the highest contrast ratio of any Kindle device. After the 11th generation Kindle Paperwhite (review) received a screen that increased from 6.0 to 6.8 inches in 2021, Amazon is now equipping it with a 7-inch screen. However, the new model is thinner than its predecessor. Battery life is expected to be up to three months.
The Kindle Paperwhite is waterproof and, like its predecessor, has 16 GB of storage space. It is available in black, jade green and pink from 169.99 euros*. The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition with 32 GB of storage, optional wireless charging and auto-adjusting front lighting is available in Metallic Black, Metallic Jade Green and Metallic Pink starting at €199.99*.
Kindle: The Kindle for your pocket
Weighing 158g and featuring a 6-inch screen, the new Kindle fits in one hand or your pocket. The screen size and its resolution of 300 ppi have not changed compared to its 2022 predecessor. The front lighting should shine 25% brighter at maximum setting and therefore just as bright as the Kindle Paperwhite and should also deliver better performance with faster page turning.

Kindle Kids and Kindle Paperwhite Kids
Amazon is re-releasing the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle in a Kids Edition specifically for children. The new Kindle Kids includes a space whale, ocean explorer or unicorn valley themed cover for kids, while the waterproof Kindle Paperwhite Kids comes with a deep sea or cyber horizon cover.
