Motorola is expanding the Edge 60 series with two-tier smartphones. The Edge 60 and Edge 60 Pro join the cheaper Edge 60 Fusion, which was already available. Both new models offer extremely bright OLED displays, three cameras, large batteries, and several new AI features, which are combined under the “Moto AI” umbrella.
Batteries with up to 6,000 mAh
The new additions above the €329.99 Edge 60 Fusion are €429.99 for the Edge 60 and €599.99 for the Edge 60 Pro. The devices share the same chassis, measuring 73.1 x 160.7 mm, but the Edge 60 Pro is slightly thicker at 8.24 mm instead of 7.90 mm, as it houses a battery and wireless charging instead of a 5,200 mAh battery. Both smartphones are certified for IP69 and MIL-STD-810H, which should be dust-proof and allow up to 30 minutes of immersion at a depth of 1.5 m. The glass is Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.
The OLED panel generates up to 4,500 cd/m².
The front adorns a 6.7-inch OLED display, which, with 1,220 x 2,712 pixels, offers a middle ground between 1080p and 1440p. Motorola specifies a dynamic refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and supports HDR10+ as the dynamic HDR format. Appropriately, the panel should be extremely bright; the manufacturer mentions 4,500 cd/m², which should be a selective statement.
MediaTek SoC from 4nm production
MediaTek‘s control-controlled processors are used in the higher-end Motorola models. The Edge 60 is based on the Dimensity 7300 with older ARM CPU cores; the Edge 60 Pro, on the other hand, uses the Dimensity 8350 with cores unveiled by ARM in summer 2022. The more expensive model also offers a GPU with three times as many execution units. However, both variants are manufactured in 4nm (N4 and N4P) at TSMC. Additionally, both smartphones are equipped with 512GB of memory, but only in the Edge 60 can this be expanded using a microSD card.

Same camera systems with three lenses
However, when you look at the cameras, there’s again a patient situation. Three lenses with identical sensors are used, notably for the Sony Lytia 700C’s 50 MP main camera with full sensor coverage and focus pixels. The 50 MP is reduced by pixel binning in a 4:1 ratio to 12.5 MP with a virtual pixel size of 2.0 μm. The lens above operates at f/1.8 and an 84-degree perspective. The 50 MP with the same pixel binning also offers the ultrawide angle camera, with autofocus also allowing macro shots with the f/2.0 lens. On the other hand, a triple-optical digital enlargement and 50 times compared to the main camera allows the 10 MP telephoto lenses with f/2.0 and OIS.
Moto AI assists with photos and videos
The first features of “Moto Ai” come into play for the cameras. In combination with the “Photo Enhancement Engine,” the artificial intelligence is responsible for enhancing details in the recordings, reducing noise, and generally optimizing quality. Pantone’s color specialists are responsible for the colors of the recordings in general and, in particular, for coordinating skin tones. Both smartphones support Google’s Ultra HDR format for photos with a very high dynamic range, which can also be displayed accordingly on bright screens. The AI is also used for group photos, in which several frames are taken, analyzed, and then combined into a final photo that never took place, but which everyone would have opened their eyes to. In videos (up to 4k30), the AI should be able to improve exposure, colors, and sound.
