F1 24 on Arc graphics cards: The patch for Intel XeSS 2 with Frame Generation and XeLL is here 33 comments

Intel also announced the 2nd generation of Intel XeSS with the Arc B580 and Arc B570. XeSS 2 offers the famous upscaling (super resolution), but for the first time also frame generation and XeLL for latency optimization. F1 24 is the first game to support all three technologies – patch version 1.16 is now available.
XeSS 2 for Battlemage and Alchemist
In principle, XeSS 2 also works with first-generation Intel Arc “Alchemist” desktop graphics cards, but Intel has not yet released a corresponding driver. This will likely be the case next Friday, when the Intel Arc B580 will be the first Battlemage graphics card to hit the market and a new public driver will be needed anyway.
When using compatible hardware, F1® 24 will support higher frame rates and smoother gameplay thanks to XeSS frame generation (XeSS-FG) via frame interpolation based on AI. When paired with Xe Low Latency (XeLL), this reduces input lag for a more immersive experience.
Intel XeSS 2 at a glance
XeSS 2 relies on the well-known upscaling, which can now also be used in Vulkan titles. The new Frame Generation and “Xe Low Latency” functions (XeLL, analogous to Nvidia Reflex, AMD Anti-Lag)
XeSS 2 frame generation requires XMX cores
XeSS Frame Generation inserts a third artificially generated frame between two already rendered frames. Like Nvidia, Intel also relies on one, or more precisely two, neural networks. These require some computing power, so XeSS requires 2 matrix units for acceleration (XMX). Unlike the super resolution algorithm, XeSS 2 FG is at least initially an Intel exclusive. In addition to Battlemage, Alchemist is also supported.
XeLL: Intel’s latency reducer
In order to minimize the negative effect of image generation on input lag, XeSS 2 also uses the new Xe Low Latency (XeLL), which has the same task as Nvidia Reflex and AMD Anti-Lag 2.
XeSS FG and XeLL must be integrated into the game. If XeSS FG is used, XeLL is always active to reduce latency. Without XeSS FG, XeLL can be turned on and off manually, at least as long as the game developer doesn’t integrate it differently. XeLL can also be integrated into the game without XeSS FG.
