Nearly a year after the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PlayStation, Square Enix is bringing the cult role-playing game to PC, where the title was released today. Development time was spent on technical improvements.
With the first part of the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth remake, planned in the form of a trilogy, Square Enix has shown off on the right foot. In terms of gaming, about a year ago there was a lot of praise and dream audiences. The story, narration and characters, but also the open world, which was said to have depth, were well received.
The same goes for the cult role-playing game on PC, because on Steam people are not as enthusiastic, but clearly satisfied. At least 81 percent of all reviews are positive. The criticisms relate to the technical implementation. Bugs, some frametime issues and performance issues on the Steam Deck, for which the title was “verified”, muddle the otherwise impeccable results.
Technical improvements at a glance
There are also technical improvements. On PC, the lighting is optimized, there is also the possibility of increasing the density of polygons and textures and playing in 4K resolution. The frame rate is limited to a maximum of 120 FPS. VRR and DLSS are also supported, and the mouse and keyboard can be freely assigned – something Square Enix is worth mentioning, but it should go without saying. DualSense controller including haptic feedback is also supported.
At first glance, the system requirements seem low and absolutely tolerable. However, even the recommended configuration only applies to 1080p at 60 frames per second and a medium detail setting. A six-core processor from the fourth generation Ryzen and an older mid-range GPU in the form of the RTX 2070 or the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT are estimated for this purpose. An SSD is also mandatory. For 4K resolutions, the game also requires at least 12 GB of VRAM, writes Square Enix in the fine print.
