Frankenstein’s Greetings: According to BIOS Flash, the RX 9070 is almost as fast as an XT 98 comment
A user has proven that an AMD Radeon RX 9070 (test) can be used with the BIOS of an RX 9070 XT. The graphics card then runs at the higher power limit and higher clock rates of its sister model and is almost as fast. However, there are issues with slowdown and power consumption.
RX 9070 becomes significantly faster via BIOS Flash
The ASUS Prime Radeon RX 9070 OC normally runs at a maximum of 2,590 MHz or 2,610 MHz in OC mode. But PCGH forum user Gurdi began an attempt to flash it with the ASUS Prime RX 9070 XT OC BIOS. This was achieved, and as a screenshot shows, the graphics card now runs at up to 3010 MHz, although the tools continue to report an RX 9070. “I created Frankenstein,” comments Gurdi. 317 watts for the graphics card are specified in the Adrenaline software. Normally, the power limit for an RX 9070 is only 220 watts.

The user ran the RX 9070 with XT-BIO in some benchmarks, where performance was better thanks to the significantly higher clock speed. However, the performance of a full RX 9070 XT with the same clock is not fully realized, as there are still no 8 Compute Units (CUS): an RX 9070 has 56, an RX 9070 XT 64.

Idle mode issues and ULPS
The modification also worked in games: “The game tests were all excellent,” writes Gurdi. But there were also problems, such as crashes in slow motion. There is also talk of problems with the ULPS (ultra low power) mode. In any case, such a BIOS flash is risky and should only be performed by experienced users who are willing to accept any harm.
Another screenshot shows the supposed “Gaming Stable” settings. The user comments:
You can already see that the card runs very inefficiently with this setting. But at least it works, and a reference XT can easily fit in your pocket with a little optimization. Here’s a Gamesbone profile.
