Galaxy S25 Edge: Samsung‘s slim smartphone arrives later 47 comments
Samsung’s particularly slim Galaxy S25 Edge was supposed to be unveiled in mid-April, according to previous reports. South Korean media are now reporting that a release date has been postponed until May or even June. The smartphone has not yet received an official release date; Samsung had only stated the first half of 2025.
As reported by South Korea’s Etnews, Samsung had previously chosen April 15 as the launch date, but these plans were reportedly rejected again. Samsung has already informed three network operators of the May or June release date, which they hope will include the Galaxy S25 Edge in its lineup.
Political situation in South Korea
The reason for the change is not expected to be quality issues with the smartphone. However, the country’s political situation had an impact on the decision, as on Friday this week, the South Korean Constitutional Court intends to announce a ruling in the court proceedings against suspended President Yoon Suk Yeol. In this environment, Samsung is taking responsibility for an ineffective marketing campaign for the Galaxy S25 Edge.
Personnel Changes at Samsung
The change is also likely to have influenced personnel changes at Samsung. Yesterday, Samsung appointed the former head of the smartphone division (MX Business), TM ROH, as head of the entire DX division, i.e., the division for televisions, home appliances, and smartphones. The newly created position of COO of the MX division is occupied by Won-Joon Choi, who also remains head of the R&D office and heads the global operations team for the MX division.

May or June instead of April
In fact, there was no official announcement for the Galaxy S25 Edge, but it wasn’t possible yet, which is why there may even be indirect talk of a change. However, the industry agreed that April 15th was the target date. Samsung itself had given a release date in the first half of the year for the Galaxy S25 Edge, which would still exist in May or June.
The Galaxy S25 Edge should have a 5.8 mm bezel
The Galaxy S25 Edge features a particularly thin design, which should be only 5.8 mm. Technically, the smartphone should be very similar to the Galaxy S25 (review), S25+ (review), and S25 Ultra (review), but due to the slim design, only two cameras and a likely smaller battery will fit on the device. The exact technical details are still pending. The smartphone was first seen in a short teaser for the Galaxy S20 Ultra event in January, and was most recently showcased behind the screen at MWC in February.
