This summer, the original Gears of War series returns with Gears of War: Reloaded. The game has been reworked from the ground up and is available for more platforms than ever before, including the PlayStation 5.
Starting at the end of August, it will also be available on PlayStation 5.
On August 26, 2025, players will be able to battle it out on Xbox Series X|S, PC, via Xbox Cloud Gaming, on PlayStation 5, and via Steam. Gears of War: Reloaded will also be available on PC Game Pass and in the Ultimate Game Pass directly upon release. Gears of War: Reloaded supports cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms. Players who already own the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition receive a free upgrade to Gears of War: Reloaded. However, the digital version of The Gears of War: Ultimate Edition must have been purchased before 5 p.m. on May 5, 2025. A code for Gears of War: Reloaded will be sent to authorized Xbox accounts via direct message before the game is released.
In detail, Microsoft mentions the following adjustments to the new edition:
4K resolution at 60 fps in campaign mode, 120 fps in multiplayer mode, Dynamic Range (HDR) mode, Dolby Vision and 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos, 7.1.4 3D spatial sound frequency (VRR), 4K assets and revised visual effects, texture rooting based on the image, improved contours, and improved campaign loading times.

Gears of War: Reloaded, interpreted as a tribute to the 2006 original, will offer 4K resolution and 120 fps in multiplayer mode, according to Microsoft. However, it is incomprehensible that the campaign mode itself remains limited to 60 fps on PC. Gears of War: Reloaded, however, contains platform-specific features designed to optimally utilize the performance of the respective hardware. What this means remains unclear.
Like the game released in 2006, the new edition also offers the complete gaming experience and contains all the features of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. Gears of War: Reloaded was developed by The Coalition in cooperation with SUMO Interactive and Incredulity. Game owners have access to a bonus campaign pack, all multiplayer maps and modes, as well as the full roster of characters and cosmetics that can be activated throughout the game.

Gears of War: Reloaded can be played in split-screen or online duels. The campaign can be contested with one other person in cooperative mode, or you can compete with up to seven other players in multiplayer mode. According to Microsoft, a Microsoft account is not required for cross-platform features. However, signing up for a Microsoft account enables all cross-platform features, such as saving game progress between platforms.
