GeForce RTX 50 release: The GeForce RTX 5080 16 GB expected to debut in January 260 comments
Nvidia will most likely present the GeForce RTX 5090, 5080 and 5070 at CES – both for desktop PCs and (with different chips, but under the same ID) laptop GPU variants. But which class of graphics card starts? Unlike two years ago, this should be the class of the 80s and not the 90s.
This is what wccftech reports, citing its own industry sources.
Sequence like RTX 3000?
With this decision, Nvidia would once again deviate from the latest generation order for the GeForce RTX 5000 “Blackwell”. The GeForce RTX 4090 (test) started with the GeForce RTX 4000 “Ada Lovelace”. In the previous generation, however, the GeForce RTX 3080 (test) and GeForce RTX 3090 (test) were separated by exactly a week. wccftech does not yet want to make a definitive statement on whether the GeForce RTX 5090 will hit the market in January.
The change in order could have two reasons: on the one hand, the RTX 5080 is a big bang, so the RTX 4090 is not beaten, and the RTX 5090 is supposed to put things right with a bang soon after. On the other hand, the RTX 5080 is already making a tailor-made debut and the RTX 5090 is intended to build on that and motivate enthusiasts to make an even bigger investment.

Along with the RTX 4000, the RTX 4090 first attracted everyone’s attention and the later released RTX 4080 had a very difficult few months on the market with strong performance but a relatively small price difference. Nvidia may have been right that enthusiasts were increasingly turning to the RTX 4090 for this reason.
How much time passes after CES?
CES 2024 will take place in Las Vegas from January 7 to 10, 2025. The day before the opening, on January 6 at 6:30 p.m. local time, the new generation is expected to be presented during Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s keynote at CES 2025 .
Tests and therefore marketing the following week would be possible, although ambitious, since half of the industry will be in Vegas for CES. Depending on when Nvidia lifts the first embargo – likely that of the RTX 5080 – testers would only have a few days to prepare after returning from the USA.
