GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 8GB in the test: 8GB VRAM times are over

Techastuce now has the version with 8GB of memory in the test after the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB (test). Where do you come out in the VRAM benchmark? The article provides the answer with scenarios that show the RTX 5060 TI with 16GB easily achieving 55 to 60 fps. The topic of PCIe 5.0 versus PCIe 4.0 is also analyzed. The RTX 5060 TI with 16 and 8 GB in comparison

With the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti (review), NVIDIA has brought a good entry-level graphics card to the market, a good all-rounder for the price of 449 euros. Modern games run smoothly in Full HD or WQHD, sometimes with slightly reduced graphic details, but occasionally at maximum resolution. If this is the case, there is a lack of GPU coverage, but not for VRAM.

Here you can buy the RTX 5090, 5080, 5070 (TI), and 5060 TI

8 GB model only for yourself

Unlike its predecessor, Nvidia only sent the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti model with 16GB of RAM to the editorial team for testing. At the same time, there’s also a variant with only 8GB, which is slightly cheaper at 399 euros. The editorial team also looked into the issue two weeks ago and evaluated its purchase. GEFORCE RTX 5060 TI: 8GB vs 16GB IM Gaming Test

GEFORCE RTX 5060 TI: 8GB vs 16GB IM Gaming Test

This article now provides hard facts. For this, Techastuce obtained a commercially available 8GB RTX 5060 Ti. The Palit GeForce RTX 5060 TI Dual (8GB) and the Palit GeForce RTX 5060 Ti Infinity 3 (16GB) both fully meet Nvidia's reference specifications. The focus is on gaming performance. So, the RTX 5060 TI with 8GB and 16GB is being tested.

Techastuce modified the testing procedure for this article: the standard benchmark was not used. Why?

Ultimately, it already places too high demands on the RTX 5060 Ti’s performance class.

A benchmark with ~60 fps at 16GB.

The approach was as follows instead. The GeForce RTX 5060 TI with 16GB was tested for the first time in all in the graphics card test course, plus four other top games recently released. The graphics settings were chosen so that this graphics card in WQHD achieved around 60 fps and therefore a good gaming experience.

Then, the 8GB version had to endure the same games with the same GPU coverage, but only half the VRAM. In the future, the RTX 5060 TI 8GB will also be found in the standard class, but not in this review article.

Also PCIe 5.0 vs. 4.0 in the test

Furthermore, the PCIE interface is an important topic in the article, as the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti doesn’t focus on the usual 16 lanes, but only on its 8 lanes. This isn’t actually a problem, but if there’s a storage shortage, all communication with RAM is monitored via this PCIe interface, which is only half as fast. Here, the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti automatically has a disadvantage compared to its larger 16-lane counterparts. However, the fact that many older and slower systems don’t work with the new Fast PCIe 5.0 standard, but still with PCIe 4.0—still, it’s only half as fast as the new version. How this affects the 8 GB variant of the RTX 5060 Ti is also examined.

System and Test Settings

This article also tests all graphics cards on the editorial graphics card test system, using the GeForce 575.94 as the driver for the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti.

All games for this comparison are at a resolution of 2560 x 1440, which claims is the optimal resolution for the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti, and the editorial team also supports the 16 GB model. The editorial team adjusted the graphics settings so that the 16 GB card achieves good playability at around 60 fps. Among other things, more aggressive DLSS modes and reduced graphical details have been used. More details on this are provided in the following table.

Four new games are included.

Additionally, the benchmark comparison with Assassin’s Creed Shadows (Test), Monster Hunter: Wilds (Test), IV: Oblivion Remastered (Test), and the latest US release, Part II (Test). Four other top games participated in the comparison, which was published since the graphics card test at the end of 2024.
